Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

Well I take my hat off,  and no more than that, to these anti-fur protesters  in Barcelona, Spain.

bodies. 2012

To me this demonstration is an extremely powerful statement, representing the millions of bodies  of  fur-bearing animals  dumped after being skinned (as seen below)!                                                                                                                                                          (Photograph: Sergey Maximishin)

CARCASSES

With fur production, only the pelt of the animal is used. As a result, the remains of these creatures need to be disposed of – usually dumped, causing an environmental hazard.

Because there is an obsession with preserving pelts, slaughter of animals for their fur is excruciating and merciless. The resultant skins go through a series of treatment steps, called “fur dressing”, to preserve them. “Dressing” is such an unfortunate term, as the fur in fact has been stripped from its original owner ~ a fur-bearing sentient being ~ leaving a pile of  wasted lives!

I will never understand how people can do this. It’s barbaric and evil, yet they could care less. It breaks my heart. I fuc**n hate the fur industry.

  3. this makes me hate the fashion industry. I love the quote from Eva Mendes. SO true! Designers should take a step back and realize that… Anyway, I really like your blog. Great points and as an owner of 2 rabbits the fur issue really hits home 😦

Thanks so much Pup the Rabbit:) Yes, I saw your adorable rabbits – just loved the yoga picture. The worst thing is that rabbit fur is often just used as a trimming. How disgusting is that?

Thanks Emy for all you have sacrificed to be able to speak-up for the voiceless and for your passion for this cause.
Anyone with event a spec of humanity left cant help but repulsed by the cruelty of the fur industry.
The only way we are going to bring an end to this is for every individual to actively get involved and speak-up against this.
