Emy Will

Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

GREAT NEWS!!        ban fur A bold move: MAHIKI has taken a no fur policy.

MAHIKI, a London nightclub, is considered to be one of London’s most popular clubs. It is well known for its celebrity clientele and is regularly patronised by royals including Princes William and Harry.  MAHIKI DUBAI, MAHIKI UK’s sister, has also banned fur from its premises.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Other celebrities patronising Mahiki are well-known fur hags:  RihannaLady Gaga,  Kelly Rowland,  Paris Hilton among many more. Yes, they can still go to MAHIKI but without their furs. We can only hope that the message sinks in that fur is cruel, senseless and tasteless! 1. Super news, crossing my fingers that other establishments will follow.

Me too, Laura – fingers, toes and whatever else I can cross. Certainly the idea of fur makes my face cross 😡
This move is long overdue! Good luck with your project.

Good to see this, progress comes oh so slowly

Way too slow, frankly. It is hard to understand why anyone would wear fur in the 21st century. We need to debunk the myth of fur being a status symbol.
      Thanks for the comment 🙂

I live in Prague, and unfortunately you see lots of rich Russian women walking around in fur coats in the winter. It will be a tough battle to change their minds.

That is so depressing. Where there is a demand there will always be a supply .
Luckily I don’t live in Prague, as I would be arrested for grievous bodily harm. My family try and tell me that causes are won by sound argument and not acts of violence, but there is something about people wearing fur that makes me mad!
        All the best.

Vain, soulless fur hags. Empty vessels all of them!

  4. Great news, Emy. It is a pity it is a one-off event, though. Or did I misread the poster! Whatever – it is a good start and Mahiki are to be commended.:)

Hi Amelia. How nice to hear from you. You read the poster correctly. It was originally a one night event, but was so well received that Mahiki has now made it a permanent policy. This is indeed encouraging 😀
