Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

What is the difference between a vegan diet and a vegan lifestyle?

Well if you are Beyoncé, Jay Z and Jennifer Lopez  it is wearing fur or the skin of any dead animal for that matter. To them, if you are on a “vegan diet” there is absolutely no contradiction in wearing real fur.

An authentic vegan adopts a lifestyle that does not exploit other animals in any way. Alternatives to animal products are found in every situation. A vegan lifestyle is a profound and compassionate philosophy on life.

The celebs above trivialise this philosophy by promoting the latest Hollywood fad diet, namely the

 22-day vegan challenge“.

In December 2013 Beyoncé and her husband Jay Z put this diet on the menu.

They went on a plant-based diet for 22 days ~ not out of compassion for other species and the planet but in pursuit of a ‘perfect body’.

The latest celebrity to try this diet is Jennifer Lopez.

These celebrities are renowned for their love of wearing real fur ~ the more fur the better, in their narcissistic eyes.

Beyoncé in fur                                                                                                                     beyonce-look-white-fur-lgn                                                              Beyonce and JayZ

Beyoncé even had the audacity to wear a fox fur collar to a vegan restaurant.

And if wearing real fur is not enough for Beyoncé, below are her custom-made sneakers, made from the skin of snakes, stingrays, crocodiles, and ostriches ~ specifically killed for this single pair of sneakers!

This jacket, worn by Jay Z, is from Jigga’s clothing line, Rocawear. It is advertised as having “fake fur”.

According to an investigation by the Humane Society of the United States, this ‘Hunter jacket’ on Rocawear.com contains real fur from a raccoon dog. This canine is indigenous to Asia and skinned alive for the coats.

Jennifer Lopez is so disliked by anti-fur campaigners that there is a face book page named, Boycott J. Lopez, Protest Her Wearing Fur, the Skin of Murdered Animals                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Until Jennifer Lopez Stops wearing Fur, We Are Boycotting Her and American Idol

Sadly, I think these celebs just thrive on attention, even if it is negative.

  5. So true and sad, Emy. Outdated and selfish, equating luxury and power to fur-bearing is still deeply rooted in our culture. We just purchased the BMW with vinyl interior saying no to the “luxurious” leather-covered Audi –another cog in the wheel of cruelty. Be well, my friend, thank you for visiting my blog.

      Hi Carmen.
Well done on making the ethical choice 🙂 .

After our discussion about Audi I wrote to them expressing my dissapointment that Audi did not offer non- leather seats in its luxury range motor vehicles. The representative assured me that the matter would be taken up at a board meeting. I have not heard from Audi, so it is obviously not a priority for them.
When I am ready to buy a new car I will definitely factor this into my choice.

I do think, though, that more people are adopting a vegan lifestyle and soon this will have to be respected.

As for celebrities most of them will do anything for attention.

      Cyber hugs { }, Emy

There are also a lot of vacuous leather wearing ‘vegans’ amongst the bandwagon-jumping slebs.
