Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

I find this photograph distressing and if you are following this blog you probably do as well.

skinned rabbits

However, for this woman it seems like “business as usual”.

I wonder, though, how killing and skinning sentient beings all day for a trivial fashion item affects a person’s psyche?

Very distressing & disturbing. How can anyone do this, over & over, is way beyond me!!

Indeed something seriously wrong with this awful woman and others like her, the trouble is they don’t know it. I can’t imagine this woman has any compassion or emotion or any natural feelings. No sense of guilt or shame, no conscience. How could a sane rational person do this day after day. You are right she is most likely a psychopath.

  3. You couldn’t pay me a billion dollars a year to do that job — I don’t care how desperate I was for work.

My father always said, “Never trust a person who does not like animals.” I have to agree with him. If this woman can kill these beautiful animals, with nary a care, she will have zero problem killing you, me, or any other human. The line between killing animals and humans is a blurry one.

  4. A combination of ignorance about the pain suffered by innocent living beings and an inability to earn money through other means results in this.

Education is the need of the hour – both to inform the ignorant people about animal rights as well to enable such people to earn money through other means.

Thank you for your insight B2B.
Some countries that have banned fur farming, for ethical reasons, phased it out over a few years and paid the farmers compensation. However, as long as there is a demand there will always be a supply. It’s so important that we continue to raise awareness that there is no such thing as ‘humane fur’.

      Best wishes,
      Emy
