WHILE I DON’T CONDONE DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, I AGREE WITH THIS MESSAGE.

IT IS A SAD REFLECTION ON HUMAN-‘KIND’ WHEN COMPASSION IS A CRIME AND CRUELTY IS CONDONED.

FURRIERS VS EMY: TRIAL on February 2, 2015

Investec Ltd, South Africa: End your lease with Erich Fischer Furriers and stop making money from the fur trade! FURRIERS LAY A CRIMINAL CHARGE AGAINST EMY. emy in fur

That’s right, the same Emy who would not knowingly hurt any living creature let alone skin a living being for his/her fur!

Erich Fischer Furriers has charged Emy with Malicious Damage to Property for allegedly putting a sticker on his shop window.

As this is a criminal charge the state is being funded by taxpayers money.

Animal activists believe this charge is not about a sticker but rather an attempt to shift the focus away from the despicable fur trade.

 Background information:

  • I, Emy Wilhelm, have consistently presented the facts of fur farming to Mr Fischer of Erich Fischer Furriers and Investec, his landlord.

  • I issued two Promotion of Access to Information (Act, 2000) applications to Mr Fischer requesting he reveals the source of his animal furs. Every consumer has the right to know this.

  • Mr Fischer refused to release this information, saying that his furs have the Origin Assured label.origin assured label

  • Displaying the Origin Assured label is not enough evidence to prove that fur production is compassionate.

  • Investigations have shown that even “assured” farms breed and kill animals in a brutal manner. Fur farming is inherently cruel.

  • Neither Mr Fischer nor Investec have produced evidence to show that fur farming is humane.                                                                                       WHY?

Because there is no such thing as humane fur farming!  fur facts 3wound4fur facts 4

HELP US – PLEASE DON’T SUPPORT THE FUR TRADE IN ANY WAY

The only thing worse than dying on a fur farm is living on a fur farm!

The trial is on February 2nd, 2015 at the Hillbrow Magistrate Court.

BEST FRIENDS FOREVER (BFF)

This heartwarming photograph was taken last year when there were devastating floods in Croatia.

It seems this dog took it upon himself to rescue his furry, feline friend.

Croatian animal protection organisations united in the rescue operations.

REAL (WO)MEN DON’T FIGHT DOGS

ss

I have no words to express my disgust at any person who is involved in dog fighting. In this fighting, the fear of a “bait” dog spurs on another dog made aggressive by human abuse. Only a disturbed individual can enjoy this blood sport.

Although dog fighting is illegal in South Africa it is widespread in certain areas. A dog fighting ring was uncovered in Tsakane by the NSPCA (SA) in 2013. The NSPCA also found that children as young as nine were role-playing dogfights, “highlighting how deeply infused this violent crime is becoming in communities”.

Eighteen of the suspected perpetrators are now standing trial. Last Thursday I joined a protest outside the court. The Tsakane dog fighting trial was postponed yet again!

Where is justice! The accused have no remorse. When they left the court they showed vulgar signs at the protestors and even spat on a person.

There are days when I just despair.

CHARLIE HEBDO FOR THE SEALS

We all have our opinions on the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

That aside, this cartoon by Charlie Hebdo captures the senseless massacre of seals for their fur.

charlie Hebdo

Tens of thousands of harp seals are killed for their fur during the annual Canadian slaughter – a hunt totally sanctioned by the Canadian government. This hunt starts in November and ends in May. It reaches its peak in March, shortly after the harp seal pups are born.

Baby harp seals are born with a soft white coat.baby harp seal

Legally, baby harp seals in Canada cannot be hunted until they begin to shed their white coats of fur.  However, this happens at a very young age so the pups are barely weaned before they are bludgeoned to death. This is no legal protection at all.

PETITION FOR RHINOS

PLEASE BE MY VOICE!

The following petition is addressed to the South African Environmental Affairs Minister, to urge South Africa to say NO to legalising rhino horn sales.

Stand Up For South African Rhino

According to Network for Animals:

“The South African government is moving to legalise the selling of rhino horn, at a time when poaching is out of control and rhinos face extinction in the wild.

Almost 15% of the rhinos in South Africa have been slaughtered since 2010, 1116 in 2014 alone. Often the poachers hack off the rhino horn while the animal is still alive, then leave the animal to die in agony.

Legalising the trade in rhino horn will allow the South African government to sell 22 tons of rhino horn that it has in storage (roughly 25 000 dead rhinos).

The illegal trade will boom because it will become easy for a criminal to pass off a poached rhino horn as legal”.

# FEEL FREE FRIDAY ~ 13

This Feel Free Friday post is in solidarity with people who tirelessly fight to keep rhinos alive and safe.

The poaching of rhinos for their horns is despicable. A rhino is brutally killed only so the horn can be used for trinkets or useless medicine.

Apart from the senseless cruelty, poaching has brought the various species of rhinoceros to the brink of extinction.

The following video is bitter-sweet. Sad, as it an orphaned baby rhino but the interaction between her and her rescuers is very sweet. Watch to the end.

The next generation of humans may never see rhinos like this “live”, if we do not stop the scourge of poaching.

The blog, Fight For Rhinos, raises awareness about the plight of rhinos.

DON’T BE FOOLED

Is that real fur

Certain shops “proudly” sell their goods as containing real animal fur.

It is when trinkets are labelled as “faux fur”, that we are often fooled.

Fur trinkets

best friends forevercats killed

Products passed as “faux fur” are often dyed dog and cat fur.

According to Fur Free SA,

“Dog and cat fur appears as fur trim on jackets, shoes, scarves, trinkets, toys, hair bands, and sometimes even full fur coats.

Real fur is routinely dyed unnatural colours and sheared, which gives it the appearance of faux fur to the untrained eye.

fox fur shoe 1

Fur “trim” is no longer made up of cast-offs from larger pelts, but instead has become a booming industry in its own right, often inextricably linked to the dog and cat meat industry.

Many countries have extremely vague labelling laws, meaning that items containing dog and cat fur are often deliberately mislabelled as faux fur, or under exotic sounding names such as gae-wolf, goupee, Asian wolf, China wolf, Mongolian dog fur, Sobaki, Pommern wolf, dogues de Chine, and loup d’Asie.

Cat fur is frequently passed off as rabbit, maopee, goyangi, katzenfelle, natuerliches mittel, chat de Chine, and gatto cinesi”.

APPALLED

appalledAppalled ~ Greatly dismayed or horrified (www.oxforddictionaries.com/)

This doesn’t begin to describe how I felt when I discovered real-fur toys in my cats’ toy box.

It is hard for me to write about this but just so that you know, it is so easy to be fooled.

My year-end break was spent tidying up all those cupboards that were neglected during the year. Sorting the toy box was long overdue!

No, unlike some bloggers I know, I do not make my own toys for my cat dependents.

It was only in 2012, when I realised that real fur items were still being sold in the 21st century, that I started to educate myself about the appalling fur trade.

The more I learnt, the more appalled I became. It never crossed my mind that anyone would make toys out of animal fur.

These toys shown below were bought before my awakening.

Out of interest I took them apart only to discover they were made from real fur!

The synthetic toys were totally different.

Please, if it is “fluffy” rather don’t buy it ~ you just never know!
