Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

Canada Goose is a company that manufactures and sells extreme-weather clothing, including jackets, vests, hats and gloves. Sadly, it is a popular brand name.                                                                                                                           Canada Goose

Canada Goose uses coyote fur as decorative trim on their down-filled jackets.

There are no coyote farms in Canada and consequently wild coyotes are killed – usually brutally trapped.

According to Paris Palcit,

“Each year, over 100, 000 coyotes are either shot or trapped by Conibear and snare traps, and are oftentimes left suffering for days, eventually dying on their own from dehydration or starvation”.

Meet your fur trim

Down feathers are the soft feathers closest to the flesh of the ducks or geese. These ducks are kept in horrendous conditions and then plucked while still alive, until their flesh is raw.                                                                                              plucked duck

No compassionate person would support Canada Goose in any way.

This is just so cruel, for a tiny bit of fur trim a sentient being has to die. So sad. There is no need for duck or goose down, synthetic materials are just as warm. Even if this was not the case, it does not give human beings the right to behave so cruelty to animals; the pain that these birds must feel is unimaginable. How can people do this everyday? There has to be something seriously amiss with such people.

I totally agree cinnabar. No one needs to be cruel in the 21st cenury. Sadly it seems to be a choice – some people place greed over compassion 😥
