Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

There are days when I feel like the human race is going backwards with regard to compassion towards other species!

I am referring to the recent 2015 Winter fur fashion shows in London and Milan.

Fashion designers and furriers are trying to lure young people into buying real fur produce. This is done by moving away from the ‘luxurious, heavy’ look of fur and creating  a ‘lighter, colourful and fun’ product.

In other words, not only are creatures being needlessly skinned for their fur but their fur is now being disguised through dye and shearing.

Fashion designers such as Serbian Roksanda have modernised animal fur to appeal to the youth. roksanda1                                                                    Roksanda 2015 winter fashion

Thousands of dyed furs waiting to be bought and turned into frivolous fur fashion items!

To me this is going backwards in time and morality.

No one needs to wear fur for fashion in the 21st century. Fur production is barbaric and senseless.

THIS IS OBSCENE. Any one who wears fur should be made to watch the entire process ie barbaric cruelty and torture of sentient creatures living in utter misery to the point of going insane. Then murdered in the most hideous and abusive manner, or frequently skinned alive. WHAT KIND OF MENTALITY CAN SUPPORT OR BE PART OF SUCH EVIL!

VANITY! Self-centered PRIDE! The characteristics of society demand feeding our vanity at the cost of the lives of many wonderful animals with precious fur. We are a selfish culture.

  8. Seems like we fight this battle generation after generation as a “new” group “discovers the fun and luxury of fur”.
Seriously. Time to get into modern fabrics and thinking
