Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

Every year anti-fur campaigners unite in one voice against the despicable fur industry. This is known as Worldwide Fur Free Friday (WFFF). Demonstrations numbering up to 200 locations have been held around the world.

It is sad that there is still a need to hold such protests, as nobody needs fur fashion or trinkets in the 21st century.

The International Anti-fur Coalition co-ordinates this global event and has some powerful images, which say more than words.

This year WFFF takes place on November 27th and in support of this I will post an IAFC image every day this week.

  1. Everyday should be a world free day by now! I scream at my friends all the time and they dare not go near fur!

Thank you 🙂 I fail to understand why anyone wants to buy animal fur in this day and age!

      • Exactly! A designer friend recently wanted to do a fur winter collection. I was with another anti fur friend when we found out and lucky he was the one who talked him out of it saying exactly what you said. Why do you need fur in this day and age. There are so many alternatives. It ended well. No fur.

Hello dear Emy, as you said in your email “WORLDWIDE FUR FREE FRIDAY: Again” Yes, ‘Again’… I attended one of the first Fur-Free Fridays at Macy’s in Manhattan with George Cave (Trans-Species Unlimited)… in 1984 or ’85. I was living in Huntington Long Island NY at that time. You can imagine my horror when hearing on a TV commercial a few days ago that ‘Flemington Furs opens new store in Huntington’. Yes, here we go again, decades later, still advocating and educating about this barbaric practice. Thank you for all the great work you are doing, Emy. All my best to you…. and always for the animals’ liberation.

Exactly, Carol. Here we go again! It is so distressing that people still choose to wear animal fur in this day and age. Thank you for those kind words and warm wishes to you xxxx
