Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

Genuine fur cat toys, as seen is this photo, are sold as synthetic through many retail outlets.

In this way many people inadvertently support the brutal trade in animal fur.

It is, therefore, always good when this deception is exposed.

Cat “joy sticks” were being sold by Crazy Plastics SA, as this retailer believed that the toys were synthetic. Fur Free South Africa had a toy tested, which confirmed that it was of animal origin.

In response to this, Crazy Plastics SA did the ethical thing and has removed this item from its stock.

This retailer states:

“We do not support any form of animal abuse and we will not support any company that exploits animals in any shape or form … and will in future keep an eye out for similar products”.
crazy1Dedicated to all nonhuman animals who live and die in captivity for human greed!

  1. Dear Emy, each time you are about to buy something (even the silliest thing you may imagine), it is worth to check with “suspicion” and care the content of the item. You may be really surprised to find out quite many interesting things which will turn you off the desire of buying. Usually, when we go shopping, we do things compulsively and without thinking… most of the time being in a hurry and with a timing, schedule to respect. The “Dominants” (as I call those which move the threads from above), feed us all sorts of venoms and OGM trying to change humans DNA and who knows what vermin are still unknown. When you say such things, people look at you strangely, thinking you may be weird…
Even if this is not going to change the future we are going to soon enough meet, we shall start buying with extreme attention what we eat and what we wear. Veganism is the best solution, from one side you show respect and compassion for all sentient being, from the other you get to chose most of the non-modified food and natural fiber free of poisons. It is never too late to do the first step… many information are available on the internet, you may start becoming a PETA supporter (http://www.peta.org). Sorry for this long comment, but there is really much to speak out aloud… too many are “blind” and “deaf” risking their lives and those oft their relatives.
    Have a lovely w.e. :-)claudine
