Greetings from Johannesburg, South Africa. Although I have a doctorate in psychotherapy, my main passion is advocating for nonhuman animal rights. I condemn all cruelty to nonhuman animals and therefore follow a vegan lifestyle. I would like to connect with other animal activists from all over the world. The fur trade is one of the most abhorrent practices on this planet. Innocent animals are subjected to prolonged suffering for a trivial fashion item. As the chairperson of Fur Free SA. we campaign towards ending the global fur industry. This might not happen in my lifetime, but even if I leave one footprint behind, that is one step closer to the goal. This blog is a forum to discuss all aspects of the fur industry. It also raises issues around animal activism in general. Johannesburg is a crazy city and I need to escape from time to time. This photo was taken next to the magnificent Zambezi river.

Of late, I have been horrified at the amount of disgusting fur key rings and bag charms that people are casually displaying.

I can only assume that these individuals are unaware of the extreme suffering to which an animal was subjected for such frivolous items.

Or perhaps they just don’t care!fur-key-ringsI believe that NO compassionate person would knowingly support the fur market in any way, but hey, maybe compassion is an outdated value.

  1. They don’t care, it’s inconvenience.

Some people just don’t care, but I think it is fair to say that the number of people who shun products when they become aware of the cruelty involved is growing slowly but steadily.

Similarly, with places where animals are used for “entertainment”, owing to the amount of awareness that has been generated, the customer numbers are in decline. Not fast enough, but it is going in the right direction.

Thank you, Ronnie, for that insight. That is why raising awareness about cruelty towards animals is so important. I agree that once compassionate people know the truth behind so many industries they rethink their choices. We can all make a difference through our every day lives ❤

Thank you for the comment 🙂 There is a huge amount of information about the fur industry if people took the time to look. It is the same with animal testing. There are so many cruelty free alternatives now, if only people were mindful of they purchased.
